The City of Navasota, TX, is seeking an Animal Control Officer. The position is full-time and offers a salary range of $32,300.00 - $38,000.00 annually. The application deadline is February 27, 2026, at 11:59 PM Central Time (US & Canada).
The Animal Control Officer is responsible for protecting residents from stray or vicious animals and related diseases, operating the animal control center, capturing, impounding, and disposing of animals, and maintaining records and reports. The role requires working well with animals and residents.
Essential duties include maintaining the animal holding facility, grounds, vehicle, and equipment; removing, impounding, managing, and caring for stray and unwanted animals; patrolling for stray, vicious, or injured animals and responding to citizen complaints; responding to emergency calls such as cruelty to animal complaints, animal bites, and control of poisonous or dangerous animals; investigating bite reports and other complaints; documenting calls for service and writing reports; maintaining adequate stock of food, equipment, and other supplies; destroying animals as necessary using humane methods; managing animal adoptions and participating in adoption events; removing dead animals and properly transporting and disposing of them; trapping wild and domesticated animals; maintaining records and preparing required reports; preparing animals for rabies testing and transporting them to the lab; and occasionally speaking to grade school students on the importance of taking care of animals.
Required knowledge includes animal behavior, health regulations, city ordinances and state laws, equipment operations, and record preparation. Skills and abilities include safely and properly handling and caring for animals, establishing and maintaining effective relationships with co-workers and the public, demonstrating proficiency in both oral and written communication, and maintaining necessary certifications, a Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities, and a good driving record.
Acceptable experience and training include high school graduation or its equivalent and the ability to obtain Basic Animal Control Certification by the Texas Department of Health. Certificates and licenses required include Basic Animal Control Certification by the Texas Department of Health and an appropriate Texas driver's license.
