Performs a variety of manual tasks related to the maintenance of Lake Bryan grounds and equipment; assists with the maintenance of other Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU) facilities as needed.
Essential Job Functions
* Performs a variety of duties in the planting and maintenance of landscaped areas consisting of bushes, trees, flowers, shrubs, and lawns; waters, mows, weeds, trims, and fertilizes lawns; applies fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides as needed.
* Inspects and repairs playground equipment, picnic tables, barbecue-pits, and other related equipment.
* Performs minor maintenance on BTU facilities and recreation areas such as painting, plumbing, and carpentry work.
* Operates and maintains landscaping and maintenance equipment including vehicles, tractor, turf mowers, blowers, weed eaters, sprayers, and power tools.
* Picks up trash and removes litter from all park grounds; cleans and maintains pavilions and park restrooms.
* Clears debris or leaves by raking or using power blowers to clear walkways, paths, and facilities.
* Performs related duties as required.
* Responds regularly and promptly to work.
Minimum Qualifications
* Must be at least 18 years of age.
* High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
* At least one (1) year of work experience performing landscaping, grounds maintenance, facility maintenance, or similar job responsibilities is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of:
* Basic principles and practices of parks maintenance and repair.
* Materials, tools and equipment used in parks and grounds maintenance.
* Basic methods and techniques of landscaping.
* Occupational hazards and standard safety practices.
Ability to:
* Perform standardized routines and follow verbal and written instructions.
* Perform work independently based on broad instructions and general supervision.
* Perform moderate to heavy manual labor outdoors in temperature extremes for extended periods.
* Conduct routine inspections of BTU equipment and facilities; identify and perform maintenance and repairs as needed.
* Operate a variety of equipment and tools in a safe and effective manner.
* Be alert and aware of work hazards and follow the safety practices and principles in reporting and preventing incidents.
* Comply with City and department administrative directives, policies, and procedures.
* Demonstrate satisfactory performance and regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
* Provide management with sound, positive advice, and information concerning the incumbent's area of responsibility.
* Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work and communicate effectively with the public and other required entities.
Licenses, Certifications & Special Requirements
Texas Class C driver's license with a good driving record as measured by the City's evaluation system.
Physical Demands
Physical demands include but are not limited to: sitting, talking, hearing, seeing, standing, walking, driving, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending; repetitive hand and arm motion, lifting and/or moving objects up to and including 80 pounds.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in outside weather conditions. While in the field this position is exposed to inclement weather, temperature extremes, rough/uneven terrain, various depths of water, noise, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, chemicals, odors, fumes, dust, pollen, and other airborne particles.
Equipment
Work shall be performed with tools, appliances and equipment approved by those agencies and bodies that have control, authority or approval of the design working ranges or limitations of those items; the employee has the responsibility to conform to those ranges and limitations.
Equipment may include but is not limited to: truck, tractor, shovel, rake, lawn mower, weed eater, edger, leaf blower, trimmer, sprayer, hand/power tools, and other assorted landscape/grounds equipment and cleaning supplies.
